For climbing
For belaying at Klättercentret it is mandatory to carry the national climbing licenses (Green and Red cards). For top rope belaying the green license is a requirement. For lead climbing and lead belaying the red license is needed.
If you don’t have either of these licenses, but have the proper knowledge and skill, you can take the exam (called uppklättring, in Swedish). The exam consists of a short written test followed by a practical test. If you pass these you will receive the green or the red license, depending on which test you take. E-mail us at vasteras@klattercentret.se
You can take the exam with a GriGri, Jul2 or a rope break off a slot model (ATC, Verso etc).
If you don’t have the skill and knowledge yet, please attend our top rope course. The course is held over three sessions. Read more about this course here.
Just want to try it one time?
There are different ways to try climbing at Klättercentret. You can either do bouldering, which is lower walls with thick mats underneath, or toprope with an instructor. Bouldering you can do on your own during our opening hours. The first time you´re here you get at short introduction to how it works. We have courses to try Toprope climbing (Called “Prova på” in Swedish). It`s an introduction for beginners who want to try top rope climbing, 90 minutes with an instructor that belays. You will be included in a group of max. 6 people per instructor. We provide this ”Prova på” at fixed times and all necessary equipment is included in the price. These can be provided in English. You can find the fixed times at our course schedule.
Bouldering
For bouldering at Klättercentret, two things are required. First you’ll need climbing shoes, which you can rent from our reception if you don’t own a pair, alternatively visit our well assorted climbing shop to find the perfect model. Secondly you’ll need to read our safety rules and we also recommend you to watch our bouldering safety instruction film.

1. Can I start a direct debit agreement without a Swedish personal number or a Swedish bank account?
Yes, you can do this in person at our reception.
2. I am an experienced climber but people ask me for a green card, what is that?
Due to insurance policies throughout Sweden everyone who wants to belay in a climbing gym that is approved by the Swedish Climbing Association needs to have a green card (for Top rope), or red card (for Lead) that states the persons theoretical and practical knowledge about belaying. The test takes about 60 minutes and is a combination of a short theoretical and a practical test. We have certified instructors that can perform this test with us at all our locations.
3. I would like to try climbing top rope, what should I do?
If you want to climb top rope, and don’t have the green card, our ”Prova på” is the course for you. Together with other beginners you climb on our top rope walls for 90 minutes, with an instructor that belays you. We provide this ”Prova på” at fixed times and all necessary equipment is included in the price. These courses can be provided in English.
If you want to boulder, the only thing you will have to do is to stop by. You need some climbing shoes (which you can rent if you don’t have a pair) and, yeah, thats it! Please note that you need to be 12 year or older to boulder on your own.
4. I do not have a climbing partner, any tips?
We have six auto-belays here in Västerås where you can climb on our 14,5 meters wall by yourself, if you have gotten a swedish yellow-, green- or red card. Bouldering is also something you don´t need a partner to do, and it´s also a good way to find climbing friends if you want to.
